This video is the property of Mammoth Hospital and features the transformed chemotherapy rooms rocked by Rooms That Rock 4 Chemo. Local Mammoth resident, Brian Jones tells his story of overcoming cancer and receiving chemotherapy treatment at Mammoth Hospital.
The Story Behind This Room Transformation:
RTR4C was contacted in February of 2012 by the oncology nurse navigator for a small rural hospital in Mammoth, California. She stated that the chemotherapy patients at Mammoth are generally seen by oncologists at larger hospitals and cancer centers in surrounding “big” cities; however, they are able to receive their treatments here in Mammoth Lakes, saving them a lot of travel time and expense. She had graciously been given the task to assist in the remodel of the chemo infusion room and came upon our website.
Her small community raises money each year for their local cancer patients and the hospital had set aside $6500 for the remodel of this room. The room used to be a part of the radiology department and had a cold radiology feel to it.
Around the same time, we had received an email from Southern California Designer, Nicole Cavanaugh who was interested in “rocking a room” for chemo. It took a little over a year but we got it done. Nicole came to the aid of Mammoth Hospital with a full crew that traveled through snow and blizzards in a donated four wheel drive SUV rental to reach the mountainous area of Mammoth. The bring with them all needed supplies to create a healing, loving space included a much requested and appreciated FIREPLACE! With one weekend the transform the room, the team came together in success!
Mammoth Hospital opens their doors to all that need chemotherapy. It went from drab and average to fabulous, amazing, cozy and warm.
